Last month, we were invited along to the newly renovated Devon Doorway in Heswall, on the Wirral. For anyone who hasn’t heard of, or been to the Devon Doorway before, it’s the type of country pub everyone wishes they had at the end of the street.
A cosy, country cottage converted into a bar/restaurant, it offers guests a laid back gastro dining experience with a menu that changes seasonally. The food is fresh, tasty and the portion sizes are extremely generous. If, like me, you had a big appetite then you’ll not be disappointed. With main dishes from £8.50, you can be rest assured that not only will you be having a great lunch/dinner, you’ll not be thrown a huge bill at the end!
We were treated to a three course meal with a selection of canapes to start (just to get us in the mood!). With fish dishes, steaks, lamb and plenty of vegetarian dishes available, the selection was right up our street. We went for the burger which was cooked to order and served with triple fried chunky chips. We had the chicken pie which might seem like a poor choice when you have so much on offer, but you can beat an old classic! The pastry was buttery and flaky and the filling was creamy with chunks of soft chicken and crispy leek.
We could talk all day about the food and the flavours but always, we took a selection of pictures to share and we’ll leave them to do all the talking for us!
A selection of canapes to start us off.
The fire pit was lit which was perfect given it was a cold, dark night.
Mac n cheese, please.
Chicken, leak and creme fraiche pie with chunky chips.
The rack of lamb.
An amazing slice of baked cheesecake. It was only me who managed a desert. I’m my own biggest fan sometimes.
A huge thank you to the team at Devon Doorway who couldn’t have been more welcoming. They were on the ball, they had great recommendations and nothing was too much trouble. Also, thank you to the team at McCann for arranging the invite for us.
Until next time folks!
